Ambassadors Provide Safety Escorts for Cristo Rey Students

Located in the Discovery District, Cristo Rey Columbus High School offers a unique learning experience for its students through a professional work-study program. Those students who perform their work-study in Downtown Columbus within a one-mile radius of the school property are permitted to walk to their job.

Those students are escorted by Discovery Special Improvement District ambassadors when traveling to their work-study position. For this reason, ambassadors are on hand each weekday from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m., while students arrive at school, at 8:30 a.m. when the students depart for their internships, and at 3:30 p.m. when they return.

“At Cristo Rey Columbus High School, all students participate in a professional work-study program for all four years of their high school career. We are so appreciative of the Special Improvement District ambassadors, who escort our student workers to work in the mornings and keep an eye out for their safety when they return to Cristo Rey in the afternoons,” said Kristin Mutchler, director of operations, Professional Work-Study Program at Cristo Rey.

SID-tistics: SID safety ambassadors provided more than 1,000 safety escorts in 2020. Due to the pandemic, that number is lower than 2019, in which ambassadors provided more than 4,300 safety escorts.
