Biz Member Spotlight: AEP

AEP for Member SpotlightWhen it comes to the community, American Electric Power is a strong corporate partner right here in downtown Columbus. For more than 100 years, AEP has continued to strengthen and support communities it serves. AEP lends a helping hand to scores of organizations and participates in many community initiatives across its 11-state service territory and particularly here in Columbus where the company is based.

AEP and the AEP Foundation have supported organizations around downtown, such as Grange Insurance Audubon Center, Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, COSI, Columbus College of Art and Design, and the Columbus Museum of Art, just to name a few. In partnership with Columbus State Community College, the AEP Foundation created Credits Count SM. The program helps middle school students explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and offers dual enrollment opportunities at Columbus State for students in Columbus City High Schools to earn at least 12 college credits by graduation.

The AEP Foundation made a leadership gift to aid the Community Shelter Board in the renovation of its new homeless shelter on Van Buren Drive. The corporate foundation also provided a $10 million signature gift to help transform the Scioto riverfront into the Scioto Mile, a scenic, urban greenspace.

AEP’s generosity extends to Capital Crossroads SID, too, and has allowed the organization to make impressive impacts on the downtown. The company’s support includes the Statehouse Planter Project, which displays vibrant floral colors during most of the year.

AEP has called Columbus home since 1983 when the Fortune 200 Company moved its headquarters from New York City into the 31-story building along Marconi Boulevard. AEP is at the heart of the Columbus community and central business district as an involved, supportive partner.
