Homeless Outreach Success for Kimberly D.

Each month, we share a success story of the Homeless Outreach Team’s efforts to assistindividuals experiencing homelessness in downtown.

Kimberly D. became homelessness after her mother kicked her and her boyfriend out of thehome they shared together.

Her boyfriend stole the mother’s vehicle and took Kimberly against her will. Then, she was forced to stay with him in the stolen vehicle and a tent for three months. During her time in captivity, Kimberly was not allowed to leave or to contact her family.

She was finally able to get away from her captor and contacted Columbus Police. Then, CPD referred Kim to the SID Homeless Outreach Team.

Kimberly’s adult children filed a missing person’s report three weeks after she was taken. Ryan assisted Kimberly by getting her back in touch with her family and purchasing a bus ticket back to Indianapolis. Now, Kimberly lives there with her son.

“Kimberly calls us to share updates on her safety and sobriety,” said Ryan. “She seems happy and ready to find work.”
