Call For Artists: Downtown Public Restroom Art

With funding from generous donors, Capital Crossroads Special Improvement District seeks to hire local artists to design beautiful artwork for three public restrooms and their utility boxes that were recently installed in downtown Columbus. The process for submission is outlined below:

 

  • The SID requests qualifications from interested artists. Submissions should include a letter with a statement of interest and general vision for artwork, and samples of previous work. Please email submissions by February 2nd, 2024 to Kacey Brankamp: KCBrankamp@sidservices.com
  • By February 14, the SID and its steering committee will invite 5 artists to submit artwork specifically for the restroom and utility box. Each artist be compensated $300. Submissions are due on February 28th. 
  • The SID and its steering committee will select 3 winners whose art will be applied to one restroom and utility box each. Each winner will be compensated an additional $1,500. Winners will be announced by March 8th, 2024.*  

 

Three artists will be selected to design artwork for one restroom and utility box each. This includes the exterior and interior of the restroom. The artwork should be uplifting and positive. It should be appropriate for all eyes – Downtown is everyone’s neighborhood!

*Dates may be adjusted based on Downtown Commission and Public Art Commission Meeting Dates and Approvals. All participants will be notified in a timely manner of any changes to dates.
