Capital Crossroads SID Ambassador Celebrates Ten-Year Anniversary

Ambassador Kwame D. celebrated 10 years with the Capital Crossroads SID Clean Team in August. When asked why he has stayed in this job for so long, his answer came quickly, “Before, I worked in a warehouse. I really like this job!”

Kwame’s good nature has served him well while working on the downtown streets. He notes that his favorite part of his job is interacting with people.

“I am happy to see people on the street. I like how they talk to me, they ask about me and where I am from.”

Kwame emigrated from Ghana 17 years ago. He explains that his decision came from a lack of employment opportunities in his country.

“I decided to travel to get a job and care for my family. Every month I still send money to my mom. When I talk to her on the phone she thanks me for doing my best and tells me she is praying for me.”

Kwame also receives thanks from the downtown community. “People thank me for my service and say they are happy with how we keep downtown.”

CCSID is grateful to Kwame for his 10 years of hard work. In August, Ben Barker presented Kwame with a plaque in recognition of his service.

“Kwame continues to work hard as he has done the entire time I’ve known him. He has worked extra hours to help our team through the pandemic,” said Ben Barker, operations manager. “When I presented him his award, I told him ‘Asante’ which means ‘thank you’ in Swahili. Kwame hails from the Asante region of Ghana, so that brought a smile to his usual, stoic face.”

SID-tistic: In 2020, the SID’s Clean Team recorded more than 15,000 cleaning hours. This included 110 hours of snow removal and 16,300 pounds of leaves collected.
