Capitol Equities - Spotlight on Creativity

Twenty years ago, Capitol Equities launched their real estate business with the redevelopment of the Smith Bros’ Hardware building on North Fourth Street. That adaptive reuse project, which converted a 200,000 square-foot brick factory to dynamic, loft style office and event space, highlighted the company’s founding principal--promoting creativity in the commercial real estate market in downtown Columbus.

That focus hasn’t changed, with Capitol Equities representing several downtown projects over the years including Marconi Square in the Arena District, the Market Exchange neighborhood on East Main Street and Berry Boltworks, to name just a few. Besides redevelopment and leasing services, they also provide tenant representation for office and retail businesses throughout downtown, the Arena District and Short North.

“The new focus on walkable, multi-use neighborhoods in downtown Columbus is very exciting to us. It’s something we’ve believed in and supported since we opened our doors in 1997,” says Capitol Equities principal, J.R. Kern. “And the amenities and services that Capital Crossroads SID provides, including security escorts and beautification projects, have been a terrific benefit to the transformation of these neighborhoods.”

Capitol Equities is kicking off another downtown redevelopment project this spring—the former Weisheimer Vacuum building at Fourth and Chestnut. While the focus on new buildings in the city core have definitely contributed to a more robust downtown, Capitol Equities remains committed to reviving the hidden gems of the city. And the fact that their newest project is within view of Smith Bros’ Hardware, the building that kicked it all off 20 years ago, confirms their ongoing commitment to the city.

Capitol Equities projects, including Berry Boltworks and Smith Bros’ Hardware have been nominees of the James B. Recchie Design Award of the Columbus Landmarks Foundation. Capitol Equities has also received CoStar Power Broker awards for nine consecutive years. More information about Capitol Equities can be found at www.capitolequities.com.
