Manna Cafe Celebrates 20 Years with Fundraising Effort

Manna Cafe, an outreach ministry of Broad Street United Methodist Church (BSUMC), celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

Manna began in 2001 as a group of leaders who had a desire to serve their homeless neighbors. The group agreed that a hot meal, served on dishes as a sit-down dinner with neighbors, was something rare for individuals experiencing homelessness. Since that time, Manna has served more than 130,000 meals to those in need in downtown Columbus.

To celebrate this important anniversary, the Heart of the City Foundation has launched the "Neighbors with a Heart" Campaign to raise $250,000 to update the kitchen facilities at BSUMC. The renovations are necessary to sustain Manna’s important community service. Donors will be recognized at the November 2021 Celebration Gala.

After 20 years and 127,000 guests served, the kitchen is in need of a major update. The renovations will provide more efficient spaces for food preparation and clean-up, as well as  improved storage, oven space, refrigeration, dishwashing, fire safety and catering-capable space. This will allow volunteers to continue to prepare food for up to 180 guests per week.
