Member Spotlight: Squire Patton Boggs

squire-logoSquire Patton Boggs has been located downtown for more than 30 years. The firm’s location in The Huntington Center with an atrium that offers breathtaking views of the city underscores its commitment to the growth and development of the core of Columbus.

“We remain downtown because it best reflects our status as an international law firm and a leader in Central Ohio,” according to Alex Shumate, the firm’s managing partner. "Our clients value and respect both our location on Capitol Square and the prestige of residing in the city’s premier high rise. Plus, the layout of The Huntington Center allows us to stay on three floors with an internal staircase which promotes better collaboration between attorneys and staff."

“Our downtown is ever-changing and constantly improving, which is one of its greatest strengths,” Shumate said. “Over the years we’ve seen nearly 5,000 downtown condominiums and apartments built, RiverSouth has emerged as a new neighborhood, companies have created 2,500 new downtown jobs and we have launched the Scioto Mile project. Most importantly, the entire community’s view of downtown has changed as we begin to see our central city as a place of opportunity, growth and strength.”

Squire Patton Boggs has advised both private and public sector clients in implementation of many of the aspects of the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation’s strategic plan, including the ongoing development of Columbus Commons, the redevelopment of the former Jeffrey Mining site and the redevelopment of the Scioto Peninsula, including the new Veterans Memorial and Museum.

“From the beautiful planters in front of our office on High Street to the safety ambassadors, coordinators and special-duty police force, the Capital Crossroads Special Improvement District has made great strides to make downtown a safer, more beautiful place to live and work,” Shumate shared.

Squire Patton Boggs landed a #8 spot in Law360’s annual “Global 20” ranking. The list recognizes the 20 firms that had “the biggest global presence and handled the largest, significant and groundbreaking international and cross-border matters over the past year.” This is the firm’s fourth consecutive year on the list.
