Pearl Market Wraps Up 2016 Season

corn-sculpture-and-capitolOn October 14, Pearl Market wrapped up its 19th season offering farm-fresh produce and a little retail therapy in Downtown.

Visitors to the market this year were greeted by the new kinetic corn sculpture, which was installed thanks to funds from the USDA Farmers’ Market Promotion Program and a two-year sponsorship from the Credit Union of Ohio. The sculpture was created by local artist Rachel Schutt, a Columbus College of Art & Design graduate with a studio at the Columbus Idea Foundry. Schutt works in metal, watercolor and mixed media painting, and is influenced by observable nature, breakthroughs in astrophysics, quantum electrodynamics and geometry.

“Creating the Kinetic Corn Sculpture for Pearl Market was a great honor and experience. I was able to create the public sculpture at Idea Foundry Columbus and expand my knowledge and experience in the process. Nothing brings me greater joy than welding and forming metal to produce such special works of art like the Corn Sculpture for downtown's premier farmer's market,” said Schutt.

Capstone Dental and the Greater Columbus Arts Council sponsored the Pearl Market Entertainment Tent all season long. Shoppers enjoyed the abundance of live entertainment, which enhances the overall market experience.

Ohio & Franklin County Farm Bureaus, Telhio Credit Union, Heartland Bank and Sylvia Garrett Agency Nationwide Insurance all helped sponsor the reusable Pearl Market Shopping Bags, which were distributed to market shoppers this season.

Other sponsors of the market included Ohio Support Services & Ohio Custodial Management  and media sponsors Dispatch Media Group and 90.5 WCBE.

“Pearl Market is extremely thankful for downtown property owners and our sponsors. Without their support, Pearl Market would not be the beloved summer institution it is,” said market manager, Adam Schroeder. “Their continued commitment to downtown is evident through their support of Pearl Market. We are so appreciative and look forward to working with them again next season.”
