Here’s an update on the latest openings, re-openings, and new events happenings in Downtown.

Restaurants

Mr. Hibachi
250 N. 3rd St.
Mr. Hibachi’s third location is now open downtown, offering a variety of hibachi entrees, including veggie, chicken, steak, shrimp, salmon, scallop, filet mignon, and lobster, plus a selection of spring rolls. They offer dine-in and carry-out, plus delivery via DoorDash and Grubhub. Mr. Hibachi is open Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Friday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m., and Saturday, noon-10 p.m.

Luau Pork Roast August 21, 5-9 p.m
113 E. Main St.
Hosted by Pecan Penny’s and Echo Spirits Distilling Co., the event features Hawaiian-style smoked pork and a selection of sides. Click here to purchase tickets.

Lobster Rolls at Hills Market
Saturdays in August, 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Preorder your lobster roll by 9 a.m. on Thursdays to guarantee availability. Walk-up orders are also available while supplies last. 95 N. Grant Ave. 

Jet’s Pizza
Jet’s Pizza will be opening a new location at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in October. They will be taking over the space formerly occupied by Donato's Pizza in the South Cafe & Marketplace. Jet’s Pizza specializes in Detroit-style, deep-dish pizza made with fresh, high-quality ingredients.

Come kick off the weekend at Columbus Commons with fantastic free local acts. Beverage and food concessions begin at 6 p.m. and music begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are not required. Blankets and chairs are welcome, but please leave your coolers at home.

MADLAB Theatre presents Sheridan

Stuffed in their Uptown apartment, actress Lucy and working stiff Ethan mourn the recent loss of their stillborn child while struggling to forgive each other their failings and bridge the ever-widening gulf between them in this world premiere drama with laughs by Christian Missonak.

Thurber Dog Trot 5K
August 27, 5:30 p.m. and August 28, 11 a.m.
On Friday, join the first-ever Thurber Dog Trot 5K, a fundraiser to support Thurber House and Green Lawn Cemetery. Run or walk, with or without your pup, through historic Green Lawn Cemetery. On Saturday, come for the unveiling of a life-size bronze statue of Muggs, immortalized in Thurber’s short story “The Dog That Bit People,” at the Thurber family plot in Green Lawn Cemetery. 

Free Family Fun Day
September 4, 3-7 p.m.
Columbus Commons
This end-of-summer celebration for kids and families includes carousel rides, arts and crafts, performances by the Shazzbots, and other free activities. The evening concludes with a free showing of The Lion King at 7:15 p.m.

Friends and Family Workshop with Tracy Featherstone
September 11, 1-2:15 p.m.
Riffe Gallery, 77 S High St.
Artist and arts educator Tracy Featherstone uses sustainable practices and materials to create her “Overspray” print paintings. Participants in this workshop will explore pochoir printmaking through stencil and layering techniques to create their own “Overspray” work.

Viva Festival Latino
September 18, 5 p.m.

Celebrate the heart of Latin America with a free, one-night-only concert featuring international Latin music artists live on stage, including Yumbambe, Patrick Shannon, Funk Salsa Urban, and Fulanito.
